Mom always tells me that Beau and I contribute to her good health – both physically and mentally every day!! Well, no wonder why she is a happy pet parent since Beau and I know how to take care of her! After all, she does so much for us kitties every day!
This week the global community of animal lovers and advocates will celebrate World Animal Day. Started in Italy during the 1920s, it has now grown to be a worldwide social movement to raise the status of all animals in order to improve animal welfare standards around the globe.
Being a black cat myself, you can only imagine how delighted I am to have a nationally designated appreciation day for me and my fellow Blackies! Now you might ask – how come there is a special day for the black cats?
Did you know August 8th is International Cat Day? It was started in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare to raise awareness for us felines and to learn ways to help and protect us! As one of the largest animal welfare and conservation charities in the world, they work to rescue individual animals, preserve habitats, safeguard populations and advocate for greater animal protections in general.
Mom says that according to the rescue groups, it’s a huge kitten season! The shelters and adoption groups are overflowing with kittens up for adoption – so if you are thinking of adding a kitten to your family, NOW is the purrfect time to do it!
As I watch mom prep for the Meow Mini Mart pop-up shop at the Biker Cat Club of Long Island show this weekend, it makes me think back to how we got here and why. While some of you know the connection between Best Life Pets and Meow Mini Mart, some of you may not. Since it has been almost a year since we launched at our first event this past spring, I thought it was time to formally introduce the newest addition to our family!
Mom has been volunteering at the Union City Animal Trust (UCAT) adoption events this fall. Working the sign-up desk gave her the opportunity to observe the prospective adopters as they studied each of the cats up for adoption.
Mom says she has always seen cats on the “job”…pest control has been their number #1 responsibility...barn cats, warehouse cats, ship cats and shop cats have all been providing effective and efficient rodent control services for centuries!
Last week mom and her friend drove to the Jersey Shore for the day. But as the clouds gathered, they ditched the Sea Girt beach for Asbury Park to walk Cookman Avenue and visit the Catsbury Park Cat Café.
Mom has long been a fan of us black cats! And when she decided to add a cat to her new home in New Jersey, she knew that it would be black. In January 2015, she fostered and then adopted me from TLC Rescue, The Lucky Cat Rescue Group. Aren’t I the lucky black cat!
Last weekend mom drove to Philadelphia to attend the Kittydelphia benefit fundraiser for PAWS – Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society. Created by Laura Kicey and her team, the event was held at the Power Plant Productions space in Old City Philadelphia.
Yes my little bro’ is growing up! Hard to believe since it seems like yesterday that we adopted him when he was just about 4 months old…so working backwards, mom picked June 17th as his adopted birth date.

Mom says that “sustainability” is a hot topic amongst the humans for several years now…being applied to many areas of modern lifestyles, businesses and areas of academic studies and focus. Mom says cats need to live a sustainable life too – which simply means that the life of the whole animal is considered when creating a proactive and preemptive wellness plan for the pet. The idea is to help ensure a long life free of disease, illness and threats to their wellbeing.
Meow-za – things are really busy around here this week getting ready for our next pop-up shop at Cat Camp in New York City. Last year mom and her friend Christine went to the first Cat Camp, hosted by the Meow Parlour NYC, and had an amazing time as attendees! Mom even said then that we will be back next year as a participant – and here we are with Meow Mini Mart!
The weekend of April 7th and 8th was a big deal around here as Mom launched our first Meow Mini Mart pop-up shop at the Catsbury Park Cat Convention in Asbury Park! First, she wants to thank the entire team from Catsbury Park Cat Cafe for putting on such a great event. DJ Bornschein, who is the founder and owner of the 501(c)(3) (non-profit) has accomplished so much in 2 years.
