During our Meow Mini Mart pop-up events, mom gets asked a lot of questions from cat parents regarding dietary issues and litter box use – or the lack of! The diet questions are to be expected since we promote the raw, fresh food diet – but she didn’t expect to hear about the litter box issues.
Mom says it was time we checked in on the topic of waste management…also known as the litter box!
Next to food, diet, and related allergies, the litter box and its contents is the next big topic on the various kitty Facebook groups that mom belongs to. The “debate” is an on-going conversation between pets parents as to which litter is better for which issue, and why, etc.
Mom often says she was sorry that she didn’t get a cat after she lost her dog, Hank, when she lived in the City. But she was always turned off to the idea of an indoor kitty in an apartment with a litter box because of the ODOR issue!
In addition to trying out new litter, mom went all the way and ordered me a new litter box! *squeals* She found an advertisement for The Luuup in Catster magazine and doing research on the litter box ended up at the top of her to-do list.
After 2 years of using Blue Buffalo ground walnut shell litter, mom said she was tired of the "brown dust" that the litter created. I'm a big cat and when I get in the box, I like to kick up the litter to dig the perfect spot and mom says that the dust flies.
This may certainly be a smellier post than some of my others, but I don't feel that we talk about litter enough. It is one of those topics that both humans and cats run away from. I have never understood why, since I happen to love hearing litter stories.
